Description

It seems more than ever that conflict has us reactive and hopeless right now. Bereft and longing for fortitude and resiliency in our conversations. Searching for capacity to remember self connection before engaging with others, so we can show up with empathy. If this resonates with you, join this intro to NVC teaser to learn compassionate communication!

NOTE: Acknowledging this is also Juneteenth, so any proceeds earned will be donated to Heal Your Way Forward to support the work of Black Women!

Why Attend?

  • foster greater self-awareness
  • enjoy deeper connections
  • build bridges with loved ones
  • impact social change
  • transcend conflict

What to Expect / Objectives

  • learn the basic fundamentals, formula and process of NVC – then skills to naturalize and customize the language!
  • foster an understanding of the difference between stating observations and making judgments
  • build needs consciousness that recognizes your core needs from your addiction to strategies
  • work to decipher and make effective requests vs demands
  • hone your feelings awareness that identifies “faux” feelings that imply blame and create enemy images
  • explore your skepticism, suspicion, and resistance to NVC (including discussion on where NVC can be corrupted into a manipulation tactic)
  • deepen the practice by applying the learning to real-world scenarios of conflict with support from a workbook – these scenarios will be internal (self connection) as well as external (empathy for others)

What is NVC?

Nonviolent Communication (NVC) is both self connection as well as empathy for another’s experience. It builds capacity for presence and honest expression.

It is an embodied language that results in an empathic connection to the feelings and needs in yourself or another (not simply seeking to intellectually understand or change them).

When there is feelings awareness and needs consciousness, we develop strategies together that make it possible to get everyone’s needs met – making it possible to take collaborative action for change!

Why all the giraffes? Because the giraffe has the largest heart of any land mammal, making it an excellent mascot choice by CNVC founder Marshall Rosenberg for the life-affirming language of NVC.

Will you make time for empathy and join us for a moment of compassionate connection?
